I first want to share this with you.
I cancelled my cell phone contract of 11 years recently. I refuse to pay excessive roaming fees. Example: Egypt, one blog posting, four small photographs, R 750.00. On that day my loyalty to Vodacom died a sudden death.
But how am I going to communicate when I am travelling somewhere far-off and I don’t have a cell phone with roaming?
I started an internet search and found a pay-as-you-go sim card that works in 166 countries. With this sim card you can keep a finger on the costs and you won’t get a nasty surprise on your return home.
I ordered and received such a sim card.
But the best follows.
Once a day, after using the card, your position is registered and indicated on a google earth map.
There is an unique web site link valid only for you sim card. Friends can click on the link and see where their buddy was riding that day. Even better, there is a weather indication as well with minimum and maximum temperatures, and whether it is sunny, raining, snowing etc.
I am going to test that the second half of January when we get our holiday, and you can then see where I was riding my trusted old KLR every day.
Long live technology!
